STaffs and fat tail??

Discussion in 'Staffordshire Bull Terriers' started by Coachmcewan, Jul 5, 2011.

  1. Why do staffs tend to have a fat tail when compared to a apbt?
They seem more in size like that of an American bully.

With such a close heritage to the apbt I wonder where the fatter tail comes from?

They are a different type of dog, within the same breed.

i had a stafford bitch with a rat tail (so to speak) but her father and her daughter both had traditional pump handle tails ,thicker but certainly not fat .

I actually have had APBT's with really thick tails. Tank and Arez not only have thick tails but short as well. Nyx's was really thick but normal length. They all share Hemphill/Wilder blood. Wonder if that's the connection....

Staffs tend to be shorter, more compact. Amstaffs are getting to be "bigger is better", but I tend to like a dog that has function, form and good towards people. 2 of my dogs are 50-65, a bit bigger. One has the build, one does not. I tend to think the one that is a bit harder to keep trim, is do to the fact that she is fixed, and a gyp. Tends to make it easier to pack on the lbs..She is a great dog tho, and a big sweetie too.
