    It's a large working line of Rat Terrier( similar to a Feist) haven't heard of it being a big game dog much just a varmint dog but a good one at that. They are not specialists but instead all-round versatile hunting dogs. They will bay hogs. Too big to be a earth dog, (from 20-40 lbs approx.) but they are solid tree dogs esp. on squirrel. Also heard of them being used with falcons to hunt. Also Deckers are use to retrieve downed game. They are smart, obedient, fast hunting little dogs. Short range, hot nosed, sight treeing. Steer clear from the "pet" breeders. :)

    Here is another Decker Rat Terrier site: http://deckerratterrier.nrta.com/index.shtml
    There also is a book out abot the breed.

    Seems like a coon would rip it to Shreads.

    LOL could be. :eek:I've only seen em on sq. They seem to be a new constructed breed I have no idea how consistant they are in hunting characteristics. Too much recent "pet dog" blood for me.
    As for good working Terrier, if you want a tree dog I would go with Feist, earth dog I would say Patterdale or working Russell or Fell, and for versatile dog can't go wrong with a good Jagdterrier. Just my opinion.

  4. I agree. I think that if Mr. Decker would've known about the Patterdale his quest would've stopped there lol.

    The story has it that he had a good mutt at one time, and he was simply trying to recreate what made that dog. I hadn't heard of them before, but was having a discussion with a guy today that mentioned them to me. He is from California originally, and I assume the Decker's are mostly concentrated out west. His family is into rat terriers and we started discussing working dogs...that history was just the first that I googled and was not an endorsement of that particular kennel lol.

    @Ceaser...
    It seems like a coon would rip a patterdale apart too (and they can and sometimes do as well as bull dogs and coon hounds from time to time)
    but check out these pics...

    and check that one haning from the possum on this page...

    (by the looks of that last pic it seems like those guys may use the Deckers?)
    (and that's not to endorse those guys either just some good pics)
