This is response we received from the sponsor of the second bill introduced to ban pit bulls in Tennessee. The first bill introduced by Tommy Kilby was withdrawn apparently to stop all the phone calls, emails, and letters in opposition. Then after everything cooled off Janis Sontany introduced the exact same bill, I guess she thought we weren’t paying attention. When asked why she did this her response was.




"I signed the House bill as a courtesy to Sen. Kilby because it was the
bill filing deadline. It is my understanding that he is developing
amendatory language regarding vicious dogs and irresponsible pet owners.

I told Sen. Kilby's assistant that I had no intention of moving any
breed specific legislation - you have my commitment.

I then asked her why she would do this, and she replied with…



“Because by signing it, I control it and if Sen. Kilby were to try to pass it as written (which he has committed not to do), then if I don't move my bill in the House, his efforts would be negated because all bills must pass in the same form in both Houses - Senate and House of Representatives. They are trying to pull the wool over our eyes. If any of you have stopped voicing your opinion please resume. Those of you who are registered to vote in the state of Tennessee let them know nicely that their actions on this matter will not be forgotten come election time.
