Seeing as how Neopolatin Mastiffs and English Mastiffs were crossed with Pit Bulls to create Bandogs. Has any one heard of a Tosa Pit Bull cross? Has it been done? How successful was it? Seems to me to be the best cross if you wanted to create a giant fighting dog.

Well Considering the Akc has now got there hands on the Neopolitan Mastif im sure its just a matter of time till they have even more health issues then they allready do (Hip displasyia) I believe they may have issues with there eyes and skin also. Other dogs that were once reliable working breeds and are no longer do to the Akc and breeders in general, breeding soley for looks are the Boxer and Doberman (both now riddled with help issues) the Doberman having Wobblers Syndrom and the Boxer often has all sorts of heart issues. As for the Tosa yes they are rich in the history of K9 Combatants in the Tosas native country (cant recall off the top of my head wich country that is, Japan maybe?) but themselves most certainly cant compete pound for pound with a Bulldog (APBT) . From what i understand the Tosa in its native country is generally not often matched, with the exception being for ceremonial purposes now a days. And as for The Bandog where are they now? Now this is just my oppinion but i tend to believe, had the Swinford Bandog become an a established breed they would more than likely be in the same boat as the Doberman and Boxer themselves are now in (merely a shell of themselves, once a dog with purpose now merely a mold). I suppose what im geting at is, why in the hell would anyone even consider attempting to breed a dog superier than the breed of dog we allready have!? Once again pound for pound, what are some qualitys the forementioned breed of dogs have that could equate or compete withe our beloved Bulldog?

I dunno about Boxers but there is plenty of working Dobermann left especially in Europe... you just have to know where to look... if you get lazy looking for a breeder with the internet you'll get a pretty piece of sh*t, but if you go to all breed Sch, PSA, Ring, etc clubs, and talk to the people have Dobes, it is not too hard to find a good Dobe if you are willing to fork over the cash... ($2000+ health tested and proven)

That's like saying the Basset has been ruined by the AKC because the AKC Basset is a piece of sh*t... I promise you that there are still old type Bassets hunting rabbits if you know where to look for them! Hell, even Dachshund are still being used to hunt badger in Europe... [IMG]

In Europe yes dogs in general are kept to a higher standard and more soo bred for there purpose still. Not so much more in the states, not to say there are not people breeding dogs to there true form here still, but more soo than not the majority of people in our country our breeding for nothing more than pretty conformation and are content to hear a story of what the dog was bred for and not soo much carrying on its lineage to its true form.

That's true, unfortunately it is much the same way in the UK. Even in parts of Germany the dogs are being bred for show and losing their true nature. But in most countries where there are people dedicated to working their breed you can still find "the real deal".

just a comment on akc dogs being fucked up..until now all I ever had were Rottweillers. Same friggin thing every time...6 years bone cancer....7 years bone cancer.....6 years bone cancer... 3 dogs in a row.
I told my wife lets get a APBT those fuckers are bullet proof. So I ended up with a 3 y/o bitch pulled from a high kill shelter in Alabama. And so far so good health wise, always ready to go, full of piss and vinegar. Not at all an aggresive dog, just lots of fun. Never once did she make a mess in the house. She does need to be crated when we're not here because she will tear into something if she gets bored. Other then that, the best dog I ever had. Im hurricanejo 024.jpg sure she's gonna be around a long time (might be an am staff, depends who ya ask)

From what i have heard S Korea and Taiwan have crosses that they work but they are more tosa than pit. The pit was added for a little spice. From what i heard the smaller ones (100lbs) go shoulder to shoulder, stifle to stifle. Not the ear wrestling the pure Tosa's do. Of course it all could just be talk.
