*Update on Alex. La. Dog ordinance*

    Subject: Re: [BSL-UPDATES] THE ALEXANDRIA CITY :VICIOUS-DOG STATUTE TOO STIFF- COUNCIL ASKS LAWYER TO STUDY

    I live in the city of Alexandria, Louisiana, the way the ordinance is written it includes any dog that bites is now considered a vicious dog, no matter what size or breed. The issue now concerns the breeders that breed pit bulls and other vicious dogs. The city is requiring a $200,000.00, policy. The breeders are saying that it is to much. So now there is a study going on and the city attorney is suppose to report back to the council in four weeks his findings. On of the city councilmen is also a State Farm insurance agent, and his comment at the meeting was, " I don't think anyone can afford $2,000.00, or $200,000.00 of insurance. One other issue is that the animal control people picked up 26 pit bulls at one house and 29 pit bulls at another house. They are saying that is to many dogs at the residence. The mayor of Alexandria goes by Ned Randolph.

    I would have preferred to get this from the actual city website, but I can't seem to find it there. The only ordinance on the city site was the Animal Control Ordinance, by the city shelter........not of any signifigance, in my opinion.............................but I AM a newbie.
