San Francisco, CA -- An off-duty Solano County Sheriff's deputy shot and killed a neighborhood pit bull in Vacaville after it attacked him and his dogs as he went out for a walk.

The attack happened on Tuesday night, when sheriff's deputy Michael Vaughn was walking his two dogs.

A pit bull named Sammie charged after Vaughn's dogs. Vaughn said he had to choke the dog after it had latched on to his dog's neck.

Sammie bit Vaughn several times as well.

Witnesses say Vaughn may have gone a bit too far in shooting Sammie. Vacaville police are investigating.

Sounds like he wanted to shot the dog. He should of been carrying a stick.
